History
Egg tempera is a media with a long history and a durable quality. Eastern Orthodox icons are mainly executed in egg tempera. Pre and some post renaissance painters , such as Sandro Botticelli (The Primavera), worked primarily in egg tempera. In ancient Athens, the Parthenon was periodically given a coat of pale yellow tinted tempera to tone down the bright glare of the sun on bare white marble.
