Care

The surface may be lightly dusted with a non-lint producing duster like a feather duster (wooly dusters are not recommended). No cleaners, especially liquid or spray should be used on the surface under any circumstances.

If a painting is stored in a damp and mildewy place, and thereby develops mildew, it may be washed off with a half water half vinegar solution on a soft cloth, which has been only lightly damped, not soaked. The mixture should be used sparingly. Afterwards the painting should be allowed to get some sun, and if possible, permanently re-hung in a sunny spot.

Care should also be taken that temperas are not scratched or scuffed as, before they are a year old, their surfaces can sometimes be delicate. Their surfaces become increasingly toughened with age.

One last cautionary bit of advise. Though cats don't seem to care much for temperas, dogs have been known to find them palatable. They should be kept away from pets.
